  • The CSS original's .kbd-06:has(.kbd-06__radio--win:checked) .kbd-06__mac { display:none } pair became a single custom variant used as kbd06-win:hidden.
  • Sibling-combinator tab styling (radio:checked + label) became has-checked: on a label that wraps its own radio.
  • UI upgrade: Mac glyph caps now carry sr-only names, fixing glyph-only announcements; Windows “Delete word left” corrected to Ctrl + Backspace.
  • UI upgrade: the modifier-order footnote became a labelled glyph legend, shown only on macOS where it is relevant.

How this works

One radio, every key. The variant matches any descendant of the demo root while the Windows radio is checked:

:where() keeps specificity at zero, so the variant layers like any other utility. The glyph legend at the bottom teaches the four Mac modifiers in Apple's canonical order.

Make it yours

  • Add Linux: a third radio and a kbd06-linux variant; show Super for the Windows key.
  • Default to Windows: move checked to the second radio.
  • Pre-select the visitor's platform with demo 08's detection script.

Gotchas — read before shipping

  • Text hidden with hidden (display:none) leaves the accessibility tree — correct here, since only the visible platform should be announced.
  • The variant uses an id; give each instance on a page a unique id.
  • ⌥ and ⇧ render small in some system fonts — the glyph span is bumped to 15px.
