Classic Left Border Tailwind Blockquote Snippet
The ten-line blockquote everyone types from memory — left rule, soft wash, serif italic — but with language-aware quotation marks: [quotes:'“'_'”'_'‘'_'’'] plus before:content-[open-quote] means the nested <q> automatically gets single marks. No hard-coded characters in the text anywhere.

- Every rule mapped cleanly except
quotes, which became the arbitrary property[quotes:'“'_'”'_'‘'_'’']— the literal glyphs replace the original's\201Cescapes, which are fragile inside class attributes. color-mix(in oklch, var(--rule) 10%, transparent)→bg-tbq07-rule/10.- UI upgrade from the CSS original: the inner
<q>is set upright with a tinted underline so the nested quotation is visible as a separate voice, not just a weight change. - UI upgrade: quote text enlarged to 1.12em in Newsreader, body copy darkened
0.44→0.4, and the caption gained a short lead rule that aligns with the quote's text edge.

```How this works
The quotes property is a stack. Each open-quote takes the next pair from the list and increments depth; the <q> inside is depth 2, so it uses ‘ ’:
<blockquote class="border-l-4 border-tbq07-rule bg-tbq07-rule/10
[quotes:'“'_'”'_'‘'_'’']">
<p class="before:content-[open-quote] after:content-[close-quote]">
… <q>where does the quote end?</q> …Why not type the marks? Content authors paste text from everywhere; generated marks guarantee consistent typography, and switching to «guillemets» for French is a one-class change.
Make it yours
- French:
[quotes:'«_'_'_»'_'‹_'_'_›'](note the narrow no-break spaces inside the marks). - Drop the wash for the pure original: remove
bg-tbq07-rule/10androunded-r-[10px]. - Heavier rule:
border-l-[6px]withps-6.
Gotchas — read before shipping
- Underscores are spaces in arbitrary values — the four marks are separated by
_, not commas. - Don't also type “ ” in the content, or readers get doubled marks.
quotesinherits, so the<q>needs no class of its own to get depth-2 marks.
