Tailwind Glassmorphism Login Card with backdrop-filter

The glassmorphism login for high-end creative apps: a frosted translucent card floating over a rich gradient backdrop, with a real blur, a fine light edge and an inset highlight. The port's honest contribution is the contrast work — slash-opacity utilities make it trivially easy to see, and fix, exactly how transparent each layer is.

What changed in the port

Which parts became utilities, which stayed CSS, and why.

 • This demo needs almost no @theme: every colour is white at some alpha, and the slash syntax makes each one self-documenting. Two tokens (button ink, an accent for variants) are the whole block.
 • placeholder:text-white/70 is the one alpha-muted text in the design, and it is acceptable precisely because a placeholder is not content — every label and value is full-opacity white.
 • The @supports not fallback is the sort of thing the CSS original mentioned in prose and did not ship; the port ships it, because a glass card with no blur support is otherwise unreadable.
 • UI change from the CSS original: Urbanist replaces the system stack; sub-copy and labels went from rgba(255,255,255,.82) / .9 to full white, the card fill from 12% to 15%, and the “Forgot password?” link gained a permanent underline — on glass, colour alone cannot mark a link.

How this works

Blur needs translucency. backdrop-blur-* does nothing behind an opaque fill, so the card is bg-white/15. That number is the whole design tension: lower is prettier, higher is readable. 15% with fully opaque white text is where this one lands, and the @supports fallback raises it to 22% flat where backdrop-filter is missing.

The light edge sells the pane. border-white/30 plus an inset 0 1px 0 highlight in the shadow value: two cheap details that read as a physical sheet of glass rather than a transparent rectangle.

Legibility is engineered. Labels and headings are pure white, not white/80 — alpha-muted text over a moving-coloured backdrop is the classic glassmorphism failure, and the one place this port deliberately departs from the original's values.

Make it yours

 • Backdrop: swap the three radial gradients, or drop a real photo behind the card.
 • Frost: backdrop-blur-[18px] and the card's bg-white/15.
 • Glassiness: border-white/30 and the inset highlight's alpha.
 • Accent: the submit button is a near-opaque white slab — make it bg-tlf19-acc text-white for a coloured CTA.

Gotchas — read before shipping

 • Never alpha-mute text on glass. text-white/80 over a light part of the backdrop is how this pattern fails an audit.
 • backdrop-filter requires a semi-transparent background to be visible at all.
 • Ship a fallback: the @supports not (backdrop-filter: blur(1px)) block raises the card fill so the design degrades to a flat translucent panel rather than a transparent one.
